In the last three years, freedom of expression has been in serious danger in the country. Former President Hamed Karzai said at a news conference today that an important achievement of the past 18 years is freedom of speech, but unfortunately this significant achievement in the last three years is under serious threat. He called on US, European Union, international community and other international supporters to fight and cooperate to protect freedom of expression in Afghanistan. The former president has recently directly threatened those who call for peace using the right to freedom of expression. He said that if freedom of expression is threatened here, Afghans will be deprived of one of their important rights and Afghans should defend their rights. President Hamid Karzai also said that the security forces should defend the country’s national interests and not use them by certain personalities and circles in political transactions. According to him, the security forces must guard the contents of the constitution, which gives the people the right to freedom of expression. He described freedom of expression as an important achievement of the international community in Afghanistan, and its protection is important for the future of our country and democracy.
